Paul is a fine art photographer with work being collected by the National Portrait Gallery in London. He has a BA (Hons) and a Post Graduate Certificate in photography and has had work exhibited throughout the UK, Europe and the USA.
Paul now has his own Gallery, based in Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire, and a Portrait Gallery at Petrillo Studio, Didsbury, Manchester.

Roger Ward – I met Paul when he helped us to frame the entries to our student art competition in June 2010. He offered to take the publicity shots for us. He told me, ‘I do a bit of photography.’ You know, in a Gordon-Ramsay-does-a-bit-of-cooking kind of way. I found out that he was working on this project, and had a number of pictures accepted by the National Portrait Gallery. I thought that’s a pretty impressive ‘bit’ of photography, and decided to see what I could do to help him in return.

This is the third public exhibition of the full body of his work and the second at Mr Thomas’s. It strikes me that this is significant stuff. Paul is capturing OUR people, our heritage and our times. One day this will be recognised as important historical work. It’s a snapshot, literally, of the people of the North around the turn of the century. Imagine how interesting that will be in years to come. And you have to say there are some bloody great images here.

I love Paul’s work and hope you get some pleasure from it too. I’m particularly pleased this time that we have Russ Winstanley in an exhibition called Northern Souls. Russ is the legendary DJ who founded the famous Wigan Casino dance hall. He is the man who made Northern Soul what it is today. And each of these subjects has helped, in their own way, to make the North what it is today.

I hope you enjoy the exhibition.

Regards
Roger Ward
